Why do so many visitors to Chama return one day to call the Chama River Valley ‘home’? Is it Chama’s night sky filled with a billion stars? Is it the crystal clear air that brings out the vivid hues of Chama’s wild flowers? Is it the deep blue waters and dramatic rocky cliffs? Is it the velvety blankets of Chama’s ‘snow white’ snow? Is it the towering Ponderosa Pines or fragrant fields of freshly mown sweet hay?
Or is it the friendly greeting and smiles you get from Chama locals who come from many cultures and many walks of life?
This is Chama’s Magic.
For over 10,000 years the Chama River Valley has held a special place in the hearts and minds of many cultures. Sacred hunting and fishing grounds to nomadic native tribes, the Chama River Valley has been shared by colorful cultures from Mexico and Spain, European entrepreneurs and hard working ranchers. Today, many traditions that have died elsewhere live on in the Chama River Valley.
And along with these traditions, many deep seated values live on, too. Values like respect for one another and their cultural beliefs, personal responsibility, privacy, honesty and hard work. The people of the Chama Valley treasure the natural world. And the Chama Valley is blessed with a strong sense of community where people are always willing to lend a helping hand.
Given the way the World has changed, you might say the Chama River Valley is a little old fashioned. This is Chama’s Charm. But given the challenges the World faces, you might say we’re just what the doctor ordered. And that is Chama’s Magic.
